Artists [Mike Risk]

With ground-breaking concepts like Club Risk, Amsterdam nightlife authority extraordinaire Mike Risk introduced the lowlands to many legends of House music. For decades he has seen all there is to see in the unique world of dance music. Things come and go, but his passion for DJ-ing is, was and will always be his serious fun. Something selector Mike Risk showcases all over the planet.
As a DJ’s DJ, he is the living prove you don’t have to be a producer to DJ all over the world. Through dedication, skill and staying true to what he stands for, he has been able to share his passion for selecting and mixing music into a groove that grabs people. His DJ skills get recognition by the world’s best and are a seamless mix of upfront New York garage and Chicago house, deep house, disco and whatever feels right. Every set is a journey of digging through 25 years of music.
Mike Risk about DJ-ing: “I’ve been on the dance floor for more than two decades and witnessed lots and lots of dj sets from fantastic artists. These experiences made me the artist I am today and you always have to find your own way, I’ve learned. It’s the only way to differentiate your self. If I have to warm up, I warm up and don’t play peak time music. If I’m on primetime, then primetime tracks are played and brought with more power. I always respect the vibe of where I am.”

Mike Risk got hooked on house at the age of 18 after moving to Amsterdam in 1988 and it’s been flowing and beating through his veins ever since. Together with former business partner Jeroen Roeleveld, he threw his first party in 1994; ‘Club Risk’ was a fact. Growing up to 140 parties a year nationwide, he made it normal to invite international headliners on a weekly/monthly base in a time foreign DJ’s were a rarity in Holland. Big names such as Derrick May, Kenny Dope, Louie Vega, Kevin Saunderson, Jeff Mills, Todd Terry, Mr C and Joey Negro. Acts like Kerri Chandler, DJ Rush, Mike Dunn, Ian Pooley and many more played in Holland first via Mike and the full list of guest artists is nearly endless. Most infamous were the weekly nights at ‘Winkel van Sinkel’ in Utrecht and ‘Club More’ in Amsterdam.
Parallel he started one of the first Dutch DJ agencies: ‘Risk Agency’, jumpstarting the careers of DJ’s like Roog (Hardsoul), Leroy Rey, childhood friend Eric de Man and more. Names such as Masters at Work, Kerri Chandler, Westbam, Jazzy Jeff, Ron Carroll, Joey Negro and more, joined the agency for Dutch territory.
His pioneering promoting skills extended to other successful and cutting-edge projects. He co-created Islander Festival, Southern Comfort Zone, O.W.A.P. (Original Warehouse Acid Party) and Luvdancin and worked together with Gert van Veen (Quazar) on the early Welcome to the Future parties. Mike was also responsible for the line-ups of the Bacardi-Bat Beats events and for the Chesterfield Labelland radio shows.
Mike started DJ-ing at the age of 18, driven by passion for house, playing at home and the famous after parties amongst his peers. After Club Risk ended in 2006, he focused on his leading PR/Marketing agency, FUSE Communication as creative director/partner and DJ-ing as part of his former collective RiskSoundSystem (2007 – 2014).
2015 was the start of Mike Risk DJ-ing solo and things have been running wild ever since. Some of coming summer’s highlights are Mike playing (as only foreigner) at the legendary “Chosen Few Picnic” in Chicago and at “The Ark”,  a new massive cruise ship weekender in the Mediterranean.
